Jessner's lymphocytic infiltrate

Presents with similar erythematous, non-scaly plaques, and is histologically very similar, but lacks the dermal mucin deposition that defines tumid lupus.

Polymorphic light eruption

A photosensitive eruption of itchy papules or plaques that resolves completely, unlike the persistent nature of tumid lupus lesions.

Reticulate erythematous mucinosis

Presents as reticulated or papular erythematous patches on the central chest and back, and also shows dermal mucin, but in a different clinical pattern.
