Acquired icthyosis

The onset of diffuse scaling in adulthood, which should prompt a workup for an underlying systemic disease, such as malignancy, hypothyroidism, or sarcoidosis.

Icthyosis vulgaris

The most common form, characterized by fine, white scales that classically spare the flexural areas, unlike the larger, darker scales of X-linked ichthyosis.
