Rhofade Alternatives & UK Access
Oxymetazoline (Rhofade) is a topical treatment for persistent facial redness that is approved in the US but is not widely available in the United Kingdom.
What are cheaper or easier-to-access equivalents?
There is no direct, licensed equivalent to Rhofade for rosacea in the UK. The active ingredient, oxymetazoline, is available over-the-counter in low concentrations in nasal decongestant sprays. While some people attempt to use these products off-label on their skin, I strongly advise against this - the formulations are not designed for facial skin and the dosage is often too high.
Which pharmacies or pathways can supply it?
Rhofade is not routinely available on the NHS. It is an unlicensed "special" medication in the UK, meaning a dermatologist can prescribe it, but it must be sourced through specialist import pharmacies. This is typically only done through private dermatology clinics and can be very expensive. The most effective and accessible long-term treatment for persistent redness and vessels in the UK remains vascular laser or IPL.
