How should you prepare for an acne consultation with a dermatologist?
In order to get the most from your consultation and ensure that all of your concerns are addressed there are a few things that you can do to prepare for your consultation:-
- Make a list of the treatments that you have tried previously, how long you used them for and whether they were effective.
- Make a list of questions that you have for the dermatologist.
- Take some photographs in the weeks (use this app!) before your appointment as the severity of acne can fluctuate.
- Do some research as to what treatment options are available and think about which of these might be suitable for you.
See our guide on what to expect during your consultation.
How can I help
I see patients in person in central London. An in person consultation allows me to examine the skin directly including features that are difficult to capture in a photograph such as 3-dimensional changes and textural change. This is the better option where the diagnosis is uncertain, where previous treatment has not been effective, or where a procedure is being considered. For more straightforward conditions such as acne and rosacea a remote consultation with clear photographs can be a good option.
