What skincare routine is best for acne-prone skin?
If you have a tendency to acne, it is important to use non-oily products that are labeled as non-comedogenic. Using a cleanser such as La Roche Posay Toleriane dermo cleanser in the morning and evening can help to prevent breakouts. You should also use a non-comedogenic moisturiser. We like La Roche Posay Effaclar H and CeraVe products.
Retinol and topical retinoids belong to a class of medicines that are structurally related to vitamin A (see our previous post on retinoids). Whilst topical retinoids generally require a prescription, retinol is available in over the counter products. There are many retinol-containing products available, however they can cause irritation so it is a good idea to start with a milder formulation such as SkinCeuticals 0.3% retinol.
It is always advisable to use a sun block to prevent premature wrinkling and to protect from skin cancer. Use products that are non greasy such Heliocare 360 sun protection gel or SkinCeuticals Ultra Facial UV Defense.
