What skincare routine should you use during isotretinoin treatment?

Isotretinoin (roaccutane) causes significant changes to the biology of the skin resulting in significant dryness. This dryness is one of the most common side effects of the treatment and can be unexpected for those with acne-prone skin which tends to be greasy.

Whether you are just about to start a course of Isotretinoin or have been taking for some weeks, here are our recommendations for skin care products to ease dryness of the skin, chapped lips and eyes.

It is important to start your routine with a non-comedogenic cleanser. It is not essential to spend a lot of money - we like La Roche Posay Toleriane Dermo-Cleanser and Foaming Gel Cleanser. Cleansers produced by CeraVe and Cetaphil are also effective and inexpensive.

You may need to use a moisturiser due to skin dryness. Again the key here is to use a non-comedogenic products. We like La Roche Posay Effaclar H.

Finally, almost everyone will experience dry lips and the key here is to apply a lip balm as often as possible. We like Elizabeth Arden Eight hour intensive lip balm. Cheaper - but still effective - options include eucerin intensive lip balm or good old vaseline.
